Events offer gardening, music, art and healthy eating

UAF Summer Sessions & Lifelong Learning is hosting more than 40 free events this summer, including the following during the coming week:


  • On Wednesday, July 16, during the Discover Alaska Lecture, Susan Willsrud, director at Calypso Farm and Ecology Center, will talk about "Growing Vegetables and New Farmers in Interior Alaska." The lecture begins at 7 p.m. in the Murie Building auditorium.



  • On Thursday, July 17, the Music in the Garden concert series will feature Susan Grace, Fairbanks’ very own troubadour. With a strong rich voice and acoustic guitar, Grace sings her original songs blending the traditional with the contemporary. The music begins at 7 p.m. in the Georgeson Botanical Garden.

  • On Monday, July 21, as a part of Magical Mondays, join Mareca Guthrie, assistant professor of art and curator of fine arts at the University of Alaska Museum of the North, for a hands-on demonstration of creating color with pigment and dyes. The program will start at 7 p.m. in 201 Reichardt Building.

  • On Tuesday, for Healthy Living lecture series, learn about nutrition with clinical dietician Tiffany Ricci as she explores the topic of eating healthy. The program begins at 7 p.m. in the Murie Building auditorium.
