The ninth annual Don't Be Fuelish Competition begins April 1.

Anyone interested in the fuel-friendly competition may pick up mileage logs, a water bottle and find out more during a kickoff event, with refreshments, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. April 6 at the Fairbanks North Star Borough Assembly Chambers.

DBF 1 Organizations around Fairbanks will compete until Sept. 30 to see which group of employees can save the most fuel traveling to and from work. Participants may carpool, take the bus, bike, walk or run to work.

The University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service and the borough are co-sponsoring the competition and would like more teams of employees to compete this year.

According to the borough, past Don’t be Fuelish campaigns in Fairbanks have conserved 31,033 gallons of fuel, reduced carbon dioxide emissions by 308 tons and saved participants $122,289. Details about the competition are available at http://dontbefuelish.wordpress.com. For more information, contact Extension energy specialist Art Nash at 907-474-6366 or alnashjr@alaska.edu.
