The University of Alaska Fairbanks will host the Fifth Annual International Conference on Dispute Resolution on April 15 from 11 a.m.—1:30 p.m.

The theme for this year’s conference is “Intercultural Conflict Resolution,” with a particular focus on indigenous knowledge and dispute resolution and conflict resolution in indigenous communities.

Videoconferencing will create a global conference. The cyberconference will feature presentations from and discussions by local, national and international leaders, practitioners, researchers and students of dispute resolution, therapeutic jurisprudence and restorative justice.

This year’s keynote speaker will be Raf Gangat, the former South African ambassador to the United Arab Emirates and the Palestinian Territories and former consul general in Pakistan.

The conference will have three consecutive sessions:

  • "Therapeutic Jurisprudence and Intercultural Conflict Resolution"

  • "The Causes and Consequences of Intercultural Conflict and the Value of Restorative Practices"

  • "Circle Peacemaking, Indigenous Knowledge and Dispute Resolution"

Refreshments will be provided by the UAF Women’s Center. The conference is sponsored by the UAF communication department, which is part of the College of Liberal Arts
