Construction workers will pour almost 400 yards of concrete Thursday, Aug. 28 for the strong floor at the new UAF engineering facility.

Drivers and other pedestrians on the UAF campus should be cautious because concrete deliveries will arrive on campus every 10 to 15 minutes between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. The concrete has a short life span from the time it is mixed to the time it is placed because of the type of mix needed to create the strong floor.

The strong floor will be one of the engineering building's unique features and the only one of its kind in the state of Alaska. The floor will be 4 feet thick and will have embedded anchors every 4 feet on center. The anchors will allow engineers to push or pull on large beams or bridge girders and to simulate lateral loads such as those experienced in an earthquake.

Visit the UAF Facilities Services website for more information on the new building and its construction progress.
