Communications Between Cultures and Generations workshop

Yup'ik elders Oscar and Sophie Alexie will conduct a workshop, "Communication Between
Cultures and Generations," Tuesday, April 23, from noon to 1 p.m. in IARC 401.The Alexies have over 70 years of combined experience teaching and researching Yup'ik language. Both taught Yup'ik language and culture, including Yup'ik orthography, translating and interpreting Yugtun, regaining fluency, and Yup’ik for new learners. They also teach traditional values and beliefs that impact modern day life and focus their teaching on Yup'ik spirituality. They retired from the Kuskokwim Campus in May 2018.
