Close windows and doors to protect pipes from cold

When temperatures drop during the winter months, it's important to close office windows and building doors.

Most offices on campus have sprinkler systems fed by water pipes. Cold air entering even slightly open windows or doors can freeze and burst the pipes. Repairs after such incidents have run into the hundreds of thousands of dollars for a single building.

If you have an office or classroom that's overheating or a window or door that won't close securely, contact your building coordinator or UAF Facilities Services dispatch at 474-7000. This line is answered all day, every day.
