Tickets are sold out for the annual UAF Chancellor's Gala this weekend, but you can still participate in the fundraising effort whether you attend in person or not.

Using the crowdfunding platform IndieGoGo, supporters can give at many different levels and be eligible for perks and gifts. Perks for contributions range from a virtual shout-out on UAF's social media channels to a private table at the gala and an overnight stay at the Westmark Fairbanks Hotel and Conference Center. The goal is to raise $12,000 through IndieGoGo. Money raised through the crowdfunding campaign will augment the money raised at the event.

During the past five years, Chancellor Rogers and his wife, Sherry Modrow, have emphasized that the gala is a way to strengthen the relationship between UAF and Interior communities.

"Our hope is to get more people than ever involved, especially students, alumni, staff and faculty," said Modrow. "It's great to be able to bring more people in to participate in the gala. When people visit the site, they can see how they can easily make a difference in our community. That's exciting."

This year's gala was Feb. 8, 2014, at the Westmark in Fairbanks. The event featured fine dining, live music, and silent and outcry auctions.

Proceeds benefit two organizations, one from UAF and one from the community, that are chosen each year by Rogers and Modrow. This year, the funds raised by the gala will support the UAF music department's work to host the Alaska International Piano-e-Competition, and the With All Your Heart campaign, which supports the Harry and Sally Porter Heart Center at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital.
