The University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service will host a certified food protection manager workshop Jan. 10 in Palmer and at videoconference locations around the state.

The deadline to register is Dec. 27 so participants may receive class materials and locations beforehand.

Alaska regulations require food establishments to have at least one certified food protection manager on staff to ensure the facility complies with food safety regulations.

Morgan Poloni of the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation will lead the training from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Room 201 of the Fred and Sara Machetanz Building at Mat-Su College. Videoconference sites will be offered in Fairbanks, Soldotna, Petersburg, Kodiak and Barrow.

Registration is available online at http://bit.ly/ces-workshops. The $175 fee includes the class and a certification test.

Topics will include preventing contamination and cross-contamination, monitoring the flow of foods, product time and temperature, ensuring employee hygiene, cleaning and sanitizing, and preventing and controlling pests.
