The University of Alaska Fairbanks English department will host its 2018 Celebration of Writing event on Saturday, Oct. 20, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at  the Noel Wien Library.

This year’s theme is “Happy Process,” encouraging writers from all walks of life to participate and share a love of writing.

The event will include open house-style writing activities focused on a variety of topics, from forming an idea to sharing a work with an audience. Writers of all ages and experience levels are welcome.

This year, students in Area 111X , a writing class at the Fairbanks Correctional Center, have collaborated and designed a writing booth. Visitors to the booth will be invited to listen to students' perspectives on the idea of success and write back in support. The design of the booth is part of a research project in the students' coursework. Other organizations co-sponsoring activities at the event include the Boys and Girls Club, the Fairbanks Children's Museum and local National Novel Writing Month organizers.

Writers are encouraged to bring a laptop computer or pen and paper to participate in writing activities. This event is family-friendly, free and open to the public.
