Campus free speech event to feature national speaker via webcast

The University of Alaska Fairbanks will host a free speech event starting at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 12, in the Wood Center multilevel lounge.

The keynote lecture starting at noon will feature Erwin Chemerinsky, Dean of the Berkeley Law School and co-author of "Free Speech on Campus," speaking via live webcast from Anchorage. Following the lecture, the UAF Department of Communication and Journalism and ASUAF will host an on-site panel discussion and Q&A. The event is free and open to the public. Pizza will be served during the noon lecture.

Following is a full schedule of webcast and in-person activities:
11 a.m. — Introduction by UA President Jim Johnsen (webcast)
11:20 a.m. - Seawolf Debate Team: "Free Speech and the Future of American Democracy" (webcast)
Noon - Chemerinsky lecture (webcast)
12:45 p.m. - Panel discussion and Q&A in the Wood Center multilevel lounge (in-person)
