Braddock to be interim dean of fisheries and ocean science

Joan Braddock will serve as interim dean of the School of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences after Dean Michael Castellini leaves the position at the end of December.

Braddock is now director of the University of Alaska Press but will resign that position.

Provost Susan Henrichs appointed Braddock to the interim dean position.

Braddock served UAF for more than 20 years as a faculty member and administrator, retiring as dean of the College of Natural Science and Mathematics in 2009. She chaired the Department of Biology and Wildlife from 1999 to 2001 and was associate director of IAB and interim dean of CNSM before being appointed dean.

Braddock earned her PhD in oceanography from UAF in 1989. She joined the Institute of Arctic Biology as an assistant professor in 1990 and attained professor rank in 2003. She had sustained grant funding from state and federal agencies and over 40 peer-reviewed publications during her faculty career. She also served as major advisor for 15 graduate students.
