Blue downs Gold 74-63 in men's basketball scrimmage

Eight different players recorded double-figure scoring as the Alaska men's basketball team played its annual Blue-Gold scrimmage with Blue holding off Gold 74-63 on Thursday night at the Patty Center.

Junior guard Ronnie Baker scored a game-high 15 points to go with three steals and a pair of assists to lead Team Blue while junior forward Dallen Bills posted a double-double with 14 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Junior forward Andrew Kelly also contributed 12 points, four rebounds and four dimes.

For Gold, all five starters scored in double figures as junior Sergej Pucar also had a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Junior forward Stefan Tica tallied 12 points and three boards while senior Zach Ngawaka accrued 11 points and five rebounds. Senior guard Dominique Brinson and junior guard Pat Voeut each scored 10 points, respectively, and the duo combined for nine dimes.

Blue held the rebounding edge 45-39 and had eight steals to Gold's three. It was a high-scoring second half as each squad had 39 points but the first half was the difference as Blue outscored Gold 35-24 to build a nice lead into the locker room.

The Nanooks open the season Nov. 9 and 10 in Anchorage as they face Colorado State-Pueblo and Colorado Christian for the AT&T Alascom Jamboree at the Wells Fargo Sports Center.
