Blackboard Learn offline Dec. 22 for updates

OIT will install  Cumulative Update 5 for Blackboard Learn 9.1 Q2 2017  on Friday, Dec. 22, starting at 5 a.m. Blackboard should be online by 3 p.m. The update will fix a variety of bugs and will change BlackBoard Inline Grading. As part of the update, Inline grading will be moving from the Crocodoc document viewer to New Box View.

How will this affect you?
Assignment grading in BlackBoard using New Box View has some minor differences from what users are accustomed to. Most notably, New Box View can support a wider variety of file types for grading, though annotations only post to students once grading of an assignment is completed.

For a full list of features and Crocodoc to New Box View transition notes, please review Blackboard’s Transition Document .

Why is this changing?
Crocodoc has been acquired by Box, and will reach an end-of-service date on Jan. 15, 2018. To ensure that Inline Grading functionality is not interrupted, the switch to New Box View will be made beforehand.

What changes do I need to make?
Users should make sure that all assignments are annotated and saved before Friday, Dec. 22. After the switch, old assignment annotations will be “burned” into their documents, and will no longer be eligible for annotation. Additionally, BB Grade app users will encounter an app error the first time they attempt to open a document once the switch to New Box View is made ( this is a known issue ). To resolve this issue, users should manually close and reopen the application, which will fix the error. Otherwise, the functionality of BB Grader is unaffected.
