UAF will host a training session to provide basic awareness of the Americans with Disabilities Act at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 29, in the Murie Building auditorium.

The act requires employers to provide reasonable accommodations for qualified individuals with disabilities who are employees or applicants for employment.

Guest presenter Heidi James Frost, executive director of the Statewide Independent Living Council of Alaska, will discuss the following topics:

  • When does a person qualify for a reasonable accommodation?

  • Your ADA rights and protections: basic awareness for employees.

  • The process for establishing reasonable accommodation in the workplace.

  • ADA’s distinction between service, companion and therapy animals.
