April museum programs celebrate expeditions

16_FD ExpeditionThe University of Alaska Museum of the North is offering hands-on programs about expeditions during the month of April.

At “Family Day: Expeditions” from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 23, visitors can see historic Arctic expedition gear, learn about recent archaeological finds and discover Alaska insect, geology, mammal and plant field research. There is no admission fee for children 14 and younger, thanks to support from TOTE Maritime.

Early Explorers, for children 5 and younger, meets from 10 a.m.-noon each Friday and is included with admission. For more information about the museum’s programs and events, visit the website at www.uaf.edu/museum or call 474-7505.
