Students receive Coral Sales scholarships

Anthony Mullin and Carrie Sorensen have been awarded the 2016 Douglas P. Daniels/Coral Sales Company Scholarship.

Mullin is a doctoral candidate in civil engineering under the supervision of Associate Professor Jenny Liu, director of the Center for Environmentally Sustainable Transportation in Cold Climates. Mullin will graduate in December.

Sorensen is pursuing an interdisciplinary master's degree in transportation statistics and works on research with Assistant Professor Nathan Belz.

Damian Casados from Coral Sales Co. visited Fairbanks on Oct. 25 to present the two scholarships, which are awarded to transportation students with strong leadership and communication skills.

Liu, Belz and Billy Connor, a research faculty member with the College of Engineering and Mines, attended the scholarship reception with the students.

Coral Sales Co., headquartered in Portland, Oregon, specializes in supplying high-quality safety and maintenance products to the transportation industry in the Pacific Northwest. It has supported transportation engineering students at universities in the region since 1987.
