Angayuqaq Oscar Kawagley, associate professor of education, emeritus, died Sunday, April 24 after a long bout with cancer.

Oscar taught at UAF from 1987 to 2009 and he received his B.Ed, M.Ed, and Ed.S. degrees from UAF. As a faculty member with the School of Education and the Center for Cross-Cultural Studies, he brought a unique combination of indigenous perspectives and western scholarship to the university and its students and faculty, and influenced a generation of Native scholars. His extensive and influential capacity to operate in both the Native and non-Native cultural spheres has done much to facilitate collaborations among educators, students and Native communities.
