Anchorage energy and housing workshops scheduled

The University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service will host 10 free energy, emergency preparedness and housing workshops Feb. 9-12 in Anchorage and Eagle River.

The evening workshops will be taught by Extension energy specialist Art Nash; Extension agents Karen Petersen, Leslie Shallcross and Glen Holt; and Daisy Huang of the UAF Alaska Center for Energy and Power.

Emergency preparedness and radon workshops will be offered Feb. 10 in Room 150A of the University of Alaska Anchorage Eagle River Campus at 10928 Eagle River Road. The rest of the workshops will meet at the Anchorage district Extension office at 1675 C St.

Workshops Feb. 9 will include rocket stoves, emergency preparedness for rural Alaskans, log cabin efficiency, and radon detection and mitigation. A heating with wood workshop will be taught Feb. 10, and workshops on generating your own power and cutting firewood safely will be offered Feb. 11. Holt will teach a private forest land management workshop on Feb. 12.
