The University of Alaska Fairbanks Alumni Association has elected three new board members. Shannon McCarthy, Peter Van Flein and Gail Dabaluz will join the board this month.

McCarthy, public information officer for the Central Region of the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities in Anchorage, was elected to the board's Seat 4, Southcentral. Born and raised in Fairbanks, she graduated from UAF with a bachelor's degree in political science in 1988.

Van Flein, an independent financial advisor in Fairbanks, was elected to Seat 5, Fairbanks North Star Borough. He earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from UAF in 1987.

Dabaluz, a Ph.D. candidate and director of business and economic development with Central Council Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska in Juneau, was elected to Seat 7, Southeast. She earned her master's degree in Alaska Native Studies and Rural Development from UAF in 2010.

The new board members will join fellow directors Rhonda Widener '01; Dani Bickford '06; Jason Gootee '05; Jordan Shilling '12, '13; Jim Dixon '90, '91; Debbie Mekiana '97, '00, '05; Wayne Donaldson '80; Sam Enoka '95; and Mike Campbell '02, '04, '05.

Outgoing board members are Heath Hilyard '96; Lisa Gentry '04; and Bill Abbott '98, '00.
