LAST WEEK: 1-1 | THIS WEEK: vs. #10 Northwest Nazarene (Oct. 26), vs. #25 Central Washington (Oct. 28)
After two weeks on the road, the Alaska Nanooks volleyball team returns to their home court to host the No. 10 Northwest Nazarene Nighthawks and the No. 25 Central Washington Wildcats in two Great Northwest Athletic Conference matches at the Alaska Airlines Court. The Nooks will take on the Nighthawks Thursday, Oct. 26, before facing the Wildcats Saturday, Oct. 28. Both matches are scheduled for 7 p.m. AKDT.

MEN’S BASKETBALL & WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
LAST WEEK: Idle | THIS WEEK: WBB Blue vs. Gold (Oct. 27), MBB Blue vs. Gold (Oct. 27)
The Alaska Nanooks men’s and women’s basketball teams will unofficially kick off their 2017-2018 seasons Friday, Oct. 27, with the annual Blue vs. Gold game. The women’s basketball team, under the direction of first-year head coach Brett Sawyer, will play their intrasquad scrimmage at 6pm AKT before the men play one another directly afterward at 7:30pm AKDT. Both Blue vs. Gold games will take place at the Alaska Airlines Court but will not be streamed live through the Alaska Nanooks Stretch Internet Portal.

HOCKEY | 2-3-1 Overall, 0-0-0-0 WCHA
LAST WEEK: 2-0 | THIS WEEK: at Bowling Green (Oct. 27-28)
After earning their first victory and first sweep of the 2017-18 season against in-state rival Alaska Anchorage, the Alaska Nanooks hockey team travels to Ohio to open up Western Collegiate Hockey Association play against the Bowling Green Falcons this Friday, Oct. 27 and Saturday, Oct. 28. Both games are scheduled to start at 3:07pm AKDT.

Leiter, Jandric Honored by WCHA
On Monday, the WCHA recognized Alaska Hockey sophomore forward Colton Leiter and freshman forward Steven Jandric as the WCHA’s Offensive Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively. Leiter and Jandric led all WCHA players in points over the weekend, collecting four each. Both Leiter and Jandric tallied three-point nights in Friday’s 6-2 win over UAA, while combining for three game-winning points. Read the full recap: http://bit.ly/2yJRyh1.

Ravn Alaska Nanooks of the Week (Oct. 23-29)
On Monday, the Alaska Nanooks sports information office declared redshirt-senior outside hitter Maddie Davis (volleyball) and sophomore forward Colton Leiter (hockey) the Oct. 23 selections for the male and female Ravn Alaska Nanooks of the Week for their performances on the court and on the ice, respectively.

Maddie Davis (R-Sr. | OH | Puyallup, Washington)
Last weekend, the Nooks fell 3-1 to Saint Martin’s on Friday but bounced back to defeat Seattle Pacific 3-2 on Saturday to earn their third conference win of the season. Davis paced Alaska’s offense on both days, registering 10 kills on Friday before posting a team-best 15 kills on Saturday. Davis’ 15 kills and 15 digs on Saturday marked her second double-double of the season.

Lukash Platil  (So. | Thornton, Colorado)
For the second-straight year, Platil was the highest-finishing Nanook on the Alaska men’s cross country running team, as the sophomore helped Alaska place ninth in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday. Platil posted an 8k time of 26:45.63 in a field of 95 harriers to place 37th overall.

Almost all of Alaska Nanooks volleyball, men’s basketball and women’s basketball games (home and away, conference only) can be followed through live stats or watched live through the Alaska Nanooks Stretch Internet Portal free of charge.

All men’s ice hockey games (home and away) can be heard live on ESPN 820 AM Fairbanks or at 820sports.com. Additionally, fans have the option to watch home games or away conference contests for a small fee at WCHA.tv.
