SWIMMING
LAST WEEK: Idle | THIS WEEK: vs. Azusa Pacific (Oct. 20-21)
The Alaska Nanooks swim team officially opens the 2017-2018 season this weekend, hosting the Azusa Pacific Cougars in a two-day meet at the Patty Pool on Friday, Oct. 20, and Saturday, Oct. 21. The meet will be the first time the Nanooks face their Pacific Collegiate Swimming and Diving Conference foes this season. Friday’s meet begins at 6 p.m. AKDT, while Saturday’s meet is scheduled for noon AKDT.

VOLLEYBALL | 9-10 Overall, 2-8 GNAC
LAST WEEK: 1-1 | THIS WEEK: at Saint Martin’s (Oct. 20), at Seattle Pacific (Oct. 21)
After earning their second conference victory at Western Oregon last week, the Alaska Nanooks volleyball team hits the road once again to take on Saint Martin’s on Friday, Oct. 20, before facing the Seattle Pacific Falcons on Saturday, Oct. 21. Friday’s game in Lacey is scheduled for 6 p.m. AKDT, while Saturday’s game in Seattle is slated for 4 p.m. AKDT.

LAST WEEK: 0-2 | THIS WEEK: at Alaska Anchorage (Oct. 20), vs. Alaska Anchorage (Oct. 21)
After suffering a heartbreaking road sweep to the now No. 3rd-ranked St. Cloud Huskies in a two-game nonconference series last weekend, the Alaska Nanooks will now focus their attention on their rivals down south, as the Nanooks take part in a two-game home-and-home series against the Alaska Anchorage Seawolves this Friday, Oct. 20, and Saturday, Oct. 21. The Nanooks will face the Seawolves at the Sullivan Arena in Anchorage on Friday before hosting them at the Carlson Center in Fairbanks Saturday night. The series will count toward the Alaska Airlines Governor’s Cup rankings and are not conference games. Puck-drop both nights is scheduled for 7:07 p.m. AKDT.

CROSS COUNTRY
LAST WEEK: Idle | THIS WEEK: at GNAC Cross Country Running Conference Championships (Oct. 21)
This Saturday, Oct. 21, the Alaska Nanooks men’s and women’s cross-country running teams will travel to Bellingham, Washington, to take part in the 2017 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Cross-Country Running Conference Championships at the East Lake Padden Park. The event, which is hosted by Western Washington, will be the ultimate test for the Nanooks as they strive for their first conference championship titles.

Ravn Alaska Nanooks of the Week (Oct. 16-22)
On Monday, the Alaska Nanooks sports information office declared redshirt-senior Sagen Maddalena (rifle) and sophomore forward Kylar Hope (hockey) the Oct. 16 selections for the Ravn Alaska Nanooks of the Week for their performances on the range  and on the ice, respectively.

Sagen Maddalena (R-Sr. | Groveland, Calif.)
Maddalena led the Alaska Nanooks coed rifle team to a three-match sweep at home over the weekend, as the Nanooks defeated Ohio State and Air Force on Friday, Ohio State on Saturday and Air Force on Sunday. Maddalena was the highest-ranking individual shooter in both Saturday and Sunday’s match while placing second overall individually in Friday’s tri-team match. Most notably, Maddalena registered a new program record for an individual aggregate score on Saturday versus Ohio State, boasting an 1189.

Kylar Hope (So. | F | Lashburn, Sask.)
Despite being swept on the road to the No. 3 team in the country, the Alaska Nanooks hockey team produced a valiant effort against the St. Cloud University Huskies last Friday and Saturday on the road. Hope led all Alaska players offensively, recording his first collegiate goal on Friday before tallying a goal and an assist on Saturday for a three-point weekend. Hope led the league in shots on goal throughout the weekend with 11.

@AlaskaNanooksXC Team Day at Trax Outdoor Center
Mark your calendars! Trax Outdoor Center is collaborating with the Alaska Nanooks to host a fundraiser for the men’s and women’s Nordic ski teams this Friday, Oct. 20. Rootbeer floats, storewide sales, prizes and pizza will be available from 5-7 p.m., and 15 percent of all sales throughout the entire day will be donated directly to the Alaska Nanooks Nordic ski teams.

Charlie O’Toole Show
Catch Alaska Nanooks cross-country and Nordic skiing head coach Nick Crawford on the Charlie O’Toole show Wednesday, Oct. 18, at 8 a.m. on KFBX 970 AM Fairbanks. Crawford will discuss the upcoming GNAC cross-country championships, Team Day at Trax Outdoor Center and Ski-Fest.

Can’t make it to a game?
Nearly all Alaska Nanooks volleyball and men’s basketball and women’s basketball games (home and away, conference only) can be followed through live stats or watched live through the Alaska Nanooks Stretch Internet Portal for free.

All men’s ice hockey games (home and away) can be heard live on ESPN 820 AM Fairbanks or at 820sports.com. Additionally, fans have the option to watch home games or away conference contests for a small fee at WCHA.tv.
