VOLLEYBALL |10-15 Overall, 3-13 GNAC
LAST WEEK: 0-2 | THIS WEEK: vs. Concordia (Nov. 9), vs. Western Oregon (Nov. 11)
The Nanooks suffered a sweep on the road last week, falling to Simon Fraser 0-3 on Thursday before taking a 0-3 loss to then-No. 8-ranked Western Washington on Saturday. The Nanooks will look to bounce back this week, as they host the Concordia Cavaliers (Nov. 9) and the Western Oregon Wolves (Nov. 11) in two Great Northwest Athletic Conference matches at the Alaska Airlines Court this week.

HOCKEY | 3-5-2 Overall, 1-2-1 WCHA
LAST WEEK: 1-1 vs. Bemidji | THIS WEEK: at Ferris State (Nov. 10-11)
After splitting a two-game Western Collegiate Hockey Association series with the Bemidji State Beavers at the Carlson Center last weekend, the Nanooks continue conference play on the road this week as they travel to Big Rapids, Michigan, to take on the Ferris State Bulldogs this Friday, Nov. 10, and Saturday, Nov. 11. Both games will take place at the Ewigleben Ice Arena at 3:07 p.m. AKST.

MEN’S BASKETBALL | 0-0 Overall, 0-0 GNAC
LAST WEEK: 0-1 | THIS WEEK: vs. Chaminade (Nov. 10), vs. Hawaii-Pacific (Nov. 11)
After a tough exhibition battle with NCAA Division I program UNLV last week, the Alaska Nanooks men’s basketball team officially opens the 2017-18 season this week as they take part in the GNAC/PacWest Crossover hosted by the University of Alaska Anchorage. The Nooks will face the Chaminade Silverswords on Friday, Nov. 10, before facing the Hawaii-Pacific Sharks on Saturday, Nov. 11. Both contests will take place at the Alaska Airlines Center in Anchorage and are scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. AKST tip-off.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL | 0-0 Overall, 0-0 GNAC
LAST WEEK: Idle | THIS WEEK: vs. Hawaii-Hilo (Nov. 10-11)
Like the Alaska men’s basketball team, the Nooks will open the 2017-18 season this week with the Mt. McKinley Bank North Star Crossover. The Nanooks will host the University of Hawaii at Hilo Vulcans this Friday, Nov. 10, and Saturday, Nov. 11 for a two-game series at the Alaska Airlines Court. Friday’s matchup is scheduled for 7 p.m. AKST while Saturday’s game is slated for 2 p.m. AKST.

Ravn Alaska Nanooks of the Week (Nov. 6-12)
On Monday, the Alaska Nanooks sports information office declared junior Alex Bergholtz (cross country) and sophomore Lukash Platil (cross country) the Nov. 6 selections for the male and female Ravn Alaska Nooks of the Week for their performances on the trail last weekend.

Alex Bergholtz (Jr. | Kenai, Alaska)
Bergholtz was the highest-finishing Nanook from the Alaska women’s cross country team at the NCAA West Regional Championships last Saturday, posting a women’s 6k time of 23:11.00 to place 98th overall. It was Bergholtz’s first postseason appearance of her career.

Lukash Platil (So. | Thornton, Colo.)
For the second-straight year, Platil was the highest-finisher among his men’s cross country teammates at the NCAA West Regionals in Monmouth, Oregon, on Saturday. Platil placed 96th overall in the men’s 10km race with a time of 32:26.9.

Alaska women’s basketball meet-and-greet Nov. 8
The Alaska Nanooks women’s basketball team are hosting a meet-and-greet on Wednesday, Nov. 8, from 4-6 p.m. at the Mt. McKinley Bank at 1380 University Ave. The event will feature food, beverages, giveaways and autograph signings from your Alaska Nanooks women’s basketball team.

SAAC teddy bear toss scheduled for Nov. 25 hockey game
The Alaska Nanooks Student-Athlete Advisory Committee has selected the Nov. 25 hockey game versus Michigan Tech as the night for their annual teddy bear toss. Fans are encouraged to bring new or slightly used stuffed animals to throw on the ice at intermission. The stuffed animals will be collected and donated to Santa’s Helpers to give children around the area during the holiday season.

@AlaskaNanooksXC Skifest Nov. 11
In collaboration with the Nordic Ski Club of Fairbanks, the Alaska Nanooks Nordic ski team is kicking-off this year’s ski season with its annual Skifest on Saturday, Nov. 11, at Birch Hill. Events begin at 1 p.m. with soup and bread, skiing and socializing; the indoor program and door prizes will be awarded from 3-4 p.m.

All men’s ice hockey games (home and away) can be heard live on ESPN 820 AM Fairbanks or at 820sports.com. Additionally, fans have the option to watch home games or away conference contests for a small fee at WCHA.tv.
