LAST WEEK: 0-2 | THIS WEEK: at Simon Fraser (Nov. 2), at #8 Western Washington (Nov. 4)
After falling victim to the now-No. 13 Northwest Nazarene Nighthawks on Thursday and dropping a heartbreaking five-set match to Central Washington on Saturday, the Alaska Nanooks volleyball team will set off on its last road trip of the 2017 season that features two GNAC opponents this week. Alaska will take on the Simon Fraser Clan in Burnaby, British Columbia, on Thursday, Nov. 2, before facing the No. 8 Western Washington Vikings in Bellingham, Washington, on Saturday, Nov. 4. Both matches are scheduled for a 6 p.m. AKDT start.

SWIMMING
LAST WEEK: Idle | THIS WEEK: vs. Dixie State (Nov. 3-4)
The Alaska Nanooks swim team is back in action at the Patty Center pool this weekend, as the Nooks host the newest members of the Pacific Collegiate Swimming and Diving Conference, Dixie State, in a two-day meet this Friday, Nov. 3, and Saturday, Nov. 4. Friday’s meet is scheduled for 6 p.m. AKDT while Saturday is slated for noon AKDT.

MEN’S BASKETBALL | 0-0 Overall, 0-0 GNAC
LAST WEEK: Blue vs. Gold | THIS WEEK: at UNLV (Nov. 3)
The Alaska Nanooks men’s basketball team will hit the road this week to take on the University of Nevada at Las Vegas Rebels in an exhibition matchup against the NCAA Division I program on Friday, Nov. 3. Tipoff is slated for 6 p.m. AKDT.

HOCKEY | 2-4-2 Overall, 0-1-1-1 WCHA
LAST WEEK: 0-1-1 | THIS WEEK: vs. Bemidji State (Nov. 3-4)
The Nanooks earned two big Western Collegiate Hockey Association points last weekend as they fell 2-1 to the Bowling Green Falcons on Friday before skating to a 2-2 tie on Saturday but earning the extra conference point in a shootout. The Nooks continue their WCHA regular season schedule this week by hosting the Bemidji State Beavers this Friday, Nov. 3, and Saturday, Nov. 4, in a two-game WCHA series at the Carlson Center. Puck-drop on both nights is scheduled for 7:07 p.m. AKDT.

CROSS COUNTRY
LAST WEEK: Idle | THIS WEEK: at NCAA West Regionals (Nov. 4)
The Alaska Nanooks will compete in their final scheduled event of the 2017 season this Saturday, Nov. 4, as they head to Monmouth, Oregon, to compete in the 2017 NCAA West Regional Championships, hosted by fellow GNAC member Western Oregon. If the Nooks fare well, they will continue onward to the NCAA Division II National Championships.

Ravn Alaska Nanooks of the Week (Oct. 30-Nov. 5)
On Monday, the Alaska Nanooks sports information office declared senior setter Rachel Nichols (volleyball) and sophomore goaltender Anton Martinsson (hockey) the Oct. 30 selections for the female and male Ravn Alaska Nanooks of the Week for their performances on the court on and on the ice, respectively.

Rachel Nichols (Sr. | Setter | Riverton, Utah)
Although the Nanooks dropped two crucial GNAC matches at home last week, Nichols continued to shine posting back-to-back double-doubles last Thursday and Saturday. In Thursday’s loss to NNU, Nichols registered 39 assists and 11 digs before recording a season-best 51 assists and 18 digs on Saturday versus Central Washington. Nichols continues to lead the Nanooks volleyball team in double-doubles with nine total on the season.

Anton Martinsson (So. | Goaltender | Klippan, Sweden)
Martinsson backstopped the Nanooks to two big conference points on the road last weekend, posting an 0-1-1-1 conference record in the opening weekend of WCHA play. In Friday’s 2-1 loss to Bowling Green, Martinsson registered 25 saves and a .926 save percentage before helping the Nanooks skate to a 2-2 tie with BGSU with a 34-save effort. Martinsson tallied double-digit saves in the second and third period before collecting four in overtime. Martinsson also made saves in the five-minute 3-on-3 overtime before making the sudden death shootout save to help the Nooks earn the extra conference point.

SAAC teddy bear toss scheduled for Nov. 25 hockey game
The Alaska Nanooks Student-Athlete Advisory Committee has selected the Nov. 25 hockey game versus Michigan Tech as the night for their annual teddy bear toss. Fans are encouraged to bring new or slightly used stuffed animals to throw on the ice at intermission. The stuffed animals will be collected and donated to Santa’s Helpers to give children around the area during the holiday season.

@AlaskaNanooksXC Skifest Slated for Nov. 11
In collaboration with the Nordic Ski Club of Fairbanks, the Alaska Nanooks Nordi ski team is kicking off this year’s ski season with its annual Skifest on Saturday, Nov. 11, at Birch Hill. Events begin at 1 p.m. with soup and bread, skiing and socializing; the  indoor program and door prizes will be awarded from 3-4 p.m. AKDT.

All men’s ice hockey games (home and away) can be heard live on ESPN 820 AM Fairbanks or at 820sports.com. Additionally, fans have the option to watch home games or away conference contests for a small fee at WCHA.tv.
