WOMEN’S BASKETBALL | 4-12 Overall, 0-10 GNAC
LAST WEEK: 0-2 | THIS WEEK: vs. Simon Fraser (Jan. 25), vs. Western Washington (Jan. 26)
After a tough Great Northwest Athletic Conference road trip last week, the Alaska Nanooks women’s basketball team returns to its home court for a pair of conference matchups this week. Alaska will host the Simon Fraser Clan on Thursday, Jan. 25 before taking on the Western Washington Vikings on Saturday, Jan. 27. Both games will take place at the Alaska Airlines Court at 5:15 p.m. AKST and will be the first game of a double-header with the Alaska Nanooks men’s basketball team.

MEN’S BASKETBALL | 8-8 Overall, 6-4 GNAC
LAST WEEK: 1-1 | THIS WEEK: vs. Western Oregon (Jan. 25), vs. Concordia (Jan. 27)
The Alaska Nanooks men’s basketball team continues a two-week homestand this week, hosting the Western Oregon Wolves on Thursday, Jan. 25, before taking on the Concordia Cavaliers on Saturday, Jan. 27. Like the Alaska women’s basketball team, both games will take place at the Alaska Airlines Court and will begin at 7:30 p.m. AKST. Furthermore, both Thursday's and Saturday’s games will be game two of a double-header series with the Alaska Nanooks women’s basketball team.

SWIMMING
LAST WEEK: Idle | THIS WEEK: vs. University of Incarnate Word (Jan. 26-27)
The Alaska Nanooks swim team is back in action this week, as it closes out the 2017-2018 home season by hosting the University of the Incarnate Word on Friday, Jan. 26, and Saturday, Jan. 27. The Nanooks will take on the Cardinals on Friday at 6 p.m. AKST, while Saturday’s meet is scheduled for noon AKST at the Patty Center pool.

#5 RIFLE
LAST WEEK: 1-1 | THIS WEEK: vs. Nevada (Jan. 27)
After splitting the weekend with Ole Miss and West Virginia last week, the Alaska Nanooks rifle team will host one match this Saturday, Jan. 27, against the University of Nevada Wolfpack at the E.F. Horton Rifle Range.

Gutierrez named interim athletic director
On Monday, UAF announced that Kayne Gutierrez, assistant athletic director for compliance, will serve as the interim athletic director. Gutierrez will take over for Gary Gray, who officially stepped down Sunday, Jan. 21. Read the full press release here: http://bit.ly/2rxcNkr.

Ravn Alaska Nanooks of the Week (Jan. 22)
On Monday, the Alaska Nanooks sports information office declared senior Ann-Cathrin Uhl (Nordic skiing) and junior JT Schnering the Jan. 22 selections for the female and male Ravn Alaska Nanooks of the Week, respectively, for their performances on the trails and in the range last weekend.

Ann-Cathrin Uhl (senior | Muhlenbach, Germany)
At the University of Utah’s Invitational last weekend, Uhl was the first skier from the Alaska Nanooks women’s Nordic team to cross the finish line in both days of competition. Uhl placed 17th overall in the 5k classic race on Thursday with a time of 16:20.1 before registering a 15k freestyle time of 50:09.9 to place 14th overall.

JT Schnering (junior | Fairbanks, Alaska)
Schnering had a record weekend, helping the Nanooks defeat the Ole Miss Rebels on Friday before falling in a close battle to the No. 1 West Virginia Mountaineers on Sunday. Schnering shot a personal-best 586 in smallbore and 592 in air rifle to total a career-high 1178 before breaking those records on Sunday, tying his personal best in smallbore of 586 and resetting a new career high in air rifle 594 and aggregate score of 1180.

#StickIt2Cancer
On Saturday, the Alaska Nanooks announced that Nanook hockey's junior defenseman Jack Weiss will miss the remainder of the 2017-2018 season to undergo chemotherapy treatment for testicular cancer. The Alaska Nanooks will keep fans informed with updates and information on how they can support Weiss throughout the upcoming months. Use the hashtag #StickIt2Cancer to support Jack and his fight.

All Alaska Nanooks volleyball, men’s and women’s basketball games (home and away) can be followed through the Alaska Nanooks Stretch Internet Portal for free. Fans can follow the games through the live stream, live stats or both.

All Alaska Nanook hockey games (home and away) can be heard live through ESPN 820AM Fairbanks or online at 820sports.com. Additionally, fans have the option to watch the games live for a small fee on WCHA.tv.
