Alaska swimming elevation training: Blog No. 1

The Alaska swim team trekked down to Flagstaff, Ariz., for its annual elevation training trip. This trip will prove to be vital for the success of the Nanooks later this season heading into the PCSC and NCAA Championship meets. The swimmers will provide blog updates every couple days from the Grand Canyon State.
The training trip will last from Dec. 28 until Jan. 12 when the Nanooks will fly to Vancouver to compete in a tri-meet against Simon Fraser and University of Puget Sound in Burnaby, B.C.
Today, freshman Eileen Audette (Seward, Alaska/Fisheries) talked about the team's first day of training at Northern Arizona University's Douglas A. Wall Aquatic Center. Here is her account of the day:
"Day one of the training trip: Success! I did not get lost in the 50-meter pool so things are looking up. I am feeling strong in the pool and have high hopes for the next two weeks. Today was sooooo warm that I wore shorts in the pool! Bomb! I am fully expecting to be as tan as a beach babe by the end of the trip. Also, the trampoline at the training center looks super inviting. I'm thinking we should have a trampoline practice at some point. Overall, day one has been quite exciting. Stay tuned for episode two of the exciting adventures of the fabulous Flagstaff swimmer chicks."
