LAST WEEK: 2-0 | THIS WEEK: at Seattle Pacific (Oct. 4), at Saint Martin’s (Oct. 6)
The Alaska Nanooks earned two conference wins last weekend, sweeping both Western Oregon and Concordia at home to earn their first back-to-back conference wins at home since the 2004 season. The Nooks will hit the road this week, as they travel to Seattle, Washington, to take on the Seattle Pacific Falcons on Thursday, Oct. 4, at 6 p.m. Alaska time before taking on the Saint Martin’s Saints in Lacey, Washington, on Saturday, Oct. 6, at 2 p.m. Alaska time.

HOCKEY | 0-0-0 Overall, 0-0-0-0 WCHA
LAST WEEK: 1-0 | THIS WEEK: at Arizona State University (Oct. 6-7)
After downing Simon Fraser University 13-1 at the Carlson Center on Saturday, the Alaska Nanooks hockey team will officially open the 2018-2019 season on the road this weekend with a two-game nonconference series against the Arizona State Sun Devils. The Nanooks will face ASU for the second and third time in program history on Saturday, Oct. 6, and Sunday, Oct. 7, at the Oceanside Arena in Tempe, Arizona. Saturday’s game is slated for 6 p.m. Alaska time while Sunday’s matchup is scheduled for 2 p.m. Alaska time.

CROSS COUNTRY
LAST WEEK: Idle | THIS WEEK: at Emerald City Open (Oct. 6)
After taking a two-week break, the Alaska Nanooks men’s and women’s cross country teams are back in action this weekend competing in the Emerald City Open on Saturday, Oct. 6. The meet will take place at Lower Woodland Park in Seattle, Washington, and will feature a women’s 6k race and a men’s 8k race.

SWIMMING
LAST WEEK: Idle | THIS WEEK: Blue vs. Gold
This week will be Nanook Nation’s first chance to see the 2018-19 Alaska swim team in action, as the Nooks host their annual Blue vs. Gold Pentathlon on Saturday, Oct. 6. The intrasquad meet will take place at the Patty Center Pool and is set to being at noon Alaska time.

@NanooksVB named GNAC Team of the Week
Last week, the Alaska Nanooks volleyball team’s back-to-back Great Northwest Athletic Conference sweeps earned them the GNAC Team of the Week title. The Nooks went 3-0 against both Western Oregon (Thursday) and Concordia (Saturday) to earn back-to-back conference sweeps at home for the first time since the 2004 season. Additionally, Alaska volleyball hasn’t earned a GNAC Team of the Week honor since Oct. 5, 2015. Read the whole story: http://bit.ly/2NUGerr.

Nanooks of the Week
On Monday, the Alaska Nanooks sports information office declared sophomore setter Cate Whiting (volleyball) and senior defenseman Nikolas Koberstein (men’s ice hockey) the Oct. 1 selections for the Nanooks of the Week.

Cate Whiting (So. | S | Rapid City, S.D.)
Whiting led her teammates to back-to-back conference sweeps last week with 66 assists and 14 digs across the two matches. Whiting currently leads her teammates in assists and is ranked within the top five individually in the league.

Nikolas Koberstein (Sr. | D | Barrhead, Alta.)
In last Saturday’s exhibition game against the Simon Fraser Clan, the Alaska Nanooks hockey team rolled to a 13-1 victory at the Carlson Center in Fairbanks. Koberstein led all players with an unheard of six-point night with one goal, five assists.

2018-2019 season tickets on sale
Season ticket packages for the upcoming Alaska Nanooks hockey, men’s basketball and women’s basketball games are now on sale at the Alaska Nanooks ticketing office located in the lobby of the Patty Center. The office is open Monday through Friday, 11 a.m.–7 p.m. Alaska time, and Saturdays from noon-6 p.m. Alaska time when hockey is home. *Hockey season tickets are available for pickup this week at the Alaska Nanooks ticketing office and will also be available for pickup at the Carlson Center will call window starting at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29.
