VOLLEYBALL | 12-11 Overall, 9-7 GNAC
LAST WEEK: 1-1 | THIS WEEK: vs. Saint Martin’s (Nov. 1), vs. Seattle Pacific (Nov. 3)
Alaska split a pair of Great Northwest Athletic Conference matches on the road last week, falling 3-0 to Concordia on Thursday before defeating Western Oregon 3-1 on Saturday. The Alaska Nanooks volleyball team plays their final two home games of the 2018 season this week, taking on the Saint Martin’s Saints on Thursday, Nov. 1 before hosting the Seattle Pacific Falcons on Saturday, Nov. 3. Both matches will take place at the Alaska Airlines Court and are set to being at 7 p.m.

CROSS COUNTRY
LAST WEEK: Idle | THIS WEEK: at GNAC Championships (Nov. 3)
The Alaska Nanooks men’s and women’s cross country running teams will head to Monmouth, Oregon, this week to participate in the 2018 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Cross Country Running Championships hosted by the Western Oregon Wolves at the Ash Creek Preserve. The men will compete in an 8km race at 9 a.m. Alaska time, while the women will run a 6k race at 10 a.m. Alaska time. More details on this year’s GNAC Cross Country Championships will be made in the Alaska men’s and women’s cross country preview later this week.

MEN’S BASKETBALL | 0-0, 0-0 GNAC
LAST WEEK: Idle | NEXT WEEK: vs. Antelope Valley (Nov. 5)
Although it’s not until next Monday, Nov. 5, the Alaska Nanooks men’s basketball team will unofficially kick off the 2018-2019 season with an exhibition matchup against Antelope Valley at the Alaska Airlines Court. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL | 0-0, 0-0 GNAC
LAST WEEK: 1-0 vs. Alumni | NEXT WEEK: vs. Oregon Ducks (Nov. 6)
The Alaska Nanooks women’s basketball team also unofficially opens the 2018-2019 season next week, as its hosts NCAA Division I opponent, the University of Oregon, for an exhibition matchup at the Alaska Airlines Court on Tuesday, Nov. 6. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

  • HOCKEY: The Alaska Nanooks hockey team suffered a road sweep at the hands of the then-ranked No. 7 Minnesota State Mankato Mavericks to open up Western Collegiate Hockey Association play in Mankato last weekend. The Nooks fell 4-1 on Friday, Oct. 26, before dropping the Saturday, Oct. 27, contest 3-1. Alaska will enjoy its first bye-week of the season this week.

  • RIFLE: The Alaska Nanooks coed rifle team swept Jacksonville State in a three-match series in Fairbanks last weekend, remaining undefeated with a perfect 5-0 record throughout the 2018-19 season. Rookie Kellan McAferty was the top overall individual shooter on Thursday, Oct. 25, and Saturday, Oct. 26, before McAferty shared the top overall spot with senior JT Schnering on Sunday, Oct. 28.

  • SWIMMING: The Alaska Nanooks swim team officially opened the 2018-2019 season at home two weeks ago, splitting with Pacific Collegiate Swimming and Diving Conference rival Azusa Pacific. The Nanooks won 108-95 on Friday, Oct. 19, before falling 105-97 on Saturday, Oct. 20.

@NanooksMBB tabbed ninth in GNAC preseason coaches poll
On Tuesday, the Great Northwest Athletic Conference released the 2018-2019 preseason coaches poll, which picked the Alaska Nanooks men’s basketball team to finish ninth at the conclusion of the season. Under first-year head coach Greg Sparling, Alaska accumulated 37 points in the Poll, back two spots from its seventh-place ranking in the 2017-2018 preseason poll. The Alaska Nanooks are coming off of a 11-15 overall mark from last season, going 9-11 in conference play. Read more at https://bit.ly/2CLe4IR.

@NanooksWBB picked 11th in GNACpreseason coaches poll
On Wednesday, the GNAC released the 2018-2019 women’s basketball preseason coaches poll, which tabbed the Alaska Nanooks women’s basketball team to finish 11th at the conclusion of the upcoming season. Also with a first-year head coach at the helm, Kerri Nakamoto, the Nooks received 12 points in the 11-team conference preseason poll, back one spot from their 10th-place ranking in the 2017-2018 preseason poll. Alaska went 4-22 overall last season, going 0-20 in league games. Read more at https://bit.ly/2PyD1xI.

@NanooksSwim’s Norbye Named PCSC Swimmer of the Week
Last week, the PCSC named redshirt-freshman Kaia Norbye the conference’s NCAA Division II Female Swimmer of the Week. In their split against Azusa Pacific, Norbye placed first in the 50-yard freestyle, posting times of 24.26 and 24.57 in back-to-back days. Her time in Friday’s event ranks her 24th nationally and moves her into the No. 9 spot on the Nanooks’ all-time top-10 list in that event. Norbye’s split time also helped the Nanooks win medley relays on both Friday and Saturday.

@NanooksWBB Meet & Greet on Nov. 2 at Mt. McKinley Bank
Come and meet your 2018-2019 Alaska Nanooks women's basketball team at Mt. McKinley Bank on Nov. 2 during First Friday! The event is free and open to all ages. There will be autograph signings, giveaways and free food and beverages. The event will take place from 4-6 p.m. inside Mt. McKinley Bank located at 500 4th Ave. in downtown Fairbanks.
