WOMEN’S BASKETBALL | 3-1 Overall, 0-0 GNAC
LAST WEEK: 1-1 | THIS WEEK: Mt. McKinley Bank North Star Invitational (Nov. 22-24)
The Alaska Nanooks women’s basketball team split on the road at the Seawolf Hoops Classic last weekend, defeating the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros 65-61 on Friday before falling 63-57 to the Cal State East Bay Pioneers on Saturday for their first loss of the 2018-19 season. This week, the Alaska Nanooks women’s basketball team will be hosting the 2018 Mt. McKinley State Bank North Star Invitational Thursday, Nov. 22, through Saturday, Nov. 24, at the Alaska Airlines Court. The three-team tournament will feature the Alaska Nanooks, the Gannon University Knights and the University of Tampa Spartans. Ticketing promotion: Nov. 23’s game (Alaska vs. Gannon) will be a military appreciation game. Any current or retired military member and their dependents will be granted free admission by showing a valid military ID at the door.

LAST WEEK: 1-1 | THIS WEEK: at Michigan Tech (Nov 23-24)
The Alaska Nanooks hockey team played their first home series in four weeks last weekend, splitting a two-game Western Collegiate Hockey Association series against the Alabama-Huntsville Chargers. The Nanooks fell 3-1 on Friday before earning a 2-1 victory on Saturday with a late game-winning goal from sophomore forward Steven Jandric. The Nanooks hit the road for the last time before the holiday break this weekend, taking on the Michigan Tech Huskies in a two-game series this Friday, Nov. 23, and Saturday, Nov. 24, in Houghton, Michigan. Puck-drop at the MacInnes Student Ice Arena is set for 3:07 p.m. Alaska time both nights.

LAST WEEK: 1-1 | THIS WEEK: at MSUB Thanksgiving Tournament (Nov. 23-24)
The Alaska Nanooks men’s basketball team also split on the road last week, falling 85-63 to the Lake Superior State Lakers on Friday before earning their first win of the season on Saturday against Northwood, 84-79 at the Seawolf Jamboree. The Nanooks will head to Billings, Montana to compete in the MSUB Thanksgiving Tournament this weekend, taking on Black Hills State on Friday, Nov. 23, before facing off against Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday, Nov. 24. Tip-off both days at the Alterowitz Gymnasium is scheduled for 3:15 p.m. Alaska time.

  • Cross country: redshirt-junior Alex Bergholtz and redshirt-freshman Jack Matherly were the lone Nanook competitors at the NCAA West Region Cross Country Championships at Amend Park in Billings, Montana last Saturday. Matherly placed 115th overall in the men’s 10km race with a time of 33:08.1, while Bergholtz placed 121st overall in the women’s 6km race with a time of 23:39.05. The NCAA West Region Championships will mark the end of the 2018 season for the Alaska Nanooks men’s and women’s cross country running teams.

  • Rifle: The Alaska Nanooks coed rifle team went 1-2 on their first road trip of the season last week, defeating the University of Texas at El Paso Miners 4647-4601 on Thursday before falling to Texas Christian University (4690-4649) on Friday and the University of Nevada (4643-4641) on Saturday and Sunday.

  • Swimming: Like three other Alaska teams last weekend, the Alaska Nanooks swim team split the weekend with the Biola University Eagles at the Patty Center Pool in Fairbanks. Alaska won 122-83 on Friday before falling 104-98 on Saturday.

Nordic Cup postponed
The Alaska Nanooks men's and women's Nordic ski teams were supposed to officially open the 2018-19 season last weekend with the annual Nordic Cup Races at the Birch Hill Recreational Area in Fairbanks against in-state rival Alaska Anchorage. Due to lack of snow in Fairbanks, the Nordic Cup races have been postponed to Friday, Nov. 30 and Saturday, Dec. 1 at Birch Hill. Times will be released next week.

SAAC canned food drive
This past weekend, the Alaska Nanooks Student-Athlete Advisory Committee ran a canned food drive at the Nov. 16 and Nov. 17 hockey games. The Alaska Nanooks SAAC is proud to say that over 200 canned food or nonperishable food items were donated and delivered to the Fairbanks Food Bank on Monday. Thank you to everyone who participated!

Kluting and Martin named to Seawolf Jamboree all-tournament team
At the conclusion of the 2018 Seawolf Jamboree, junior forward Michael Kluting and junior guard Alex Martin were named to the all-tournament team. Throughout both games, Kluting shot 14-for-27 from the floor, 3-for-7 from three-point range and 7-for-10 from the free throw line to tally a combined 38 points. Kluting also chipped in 11 rebounds, two blocks and one steal. Martin registered 26 points over the weekend, shooting 10-for-18 from the field, 4-for-8 from three-point range and 2-for-6 from the free throw line, while also adding eight rebounds, five assists, two steals.

@NanooksWBB’s Wallace named to Seawolf Hoops Classic all-tournament team
For the second-straight week, Alaska Nanooks women’s basketball’s junior forward Kylie Wallace was named to an all-tournament team, this time for the Seawolf Hoops Classic in Anchorage. Wallace was the lone Alaska Nanooks on the team. Throughout the two-day tournament, Wallace combined for 36 points, shooting 12-for-15 from the floor and 12-for-13 from the free throw line, while also picking up 17 rebounds, five assists and two steals.

@NanooksHockey head coach Erik Largen to do a coaches show Nov. 29
Next week, Alaska Nanooks hockey head coach Erik Largen is set to do a coaches show at the Finish Line Restaurant and Lounge on Thursday, Nov. 29. Largen will do a sit-down interview with Tim Palmer. More details will be released soon.

2018-2019 season tickets on sale
Season ticket packages for the upcoming Alaska Nanooks hockey, men’s basketball and women’s basketball games are now on sale at the Alaska Nanooks ticketing office located in the lobby of the Patty Center. The office is open Monday through Friday, 11 a.m.–7 p.m. and and Saturdays noon-6 p.m. on weeks where hockey is home.
