MEN’S BASKETBALL | 0-2 Overall, 0-0 GNAC
LAST WEEK: 0-2 | THIS WEEK: at Hawaii-Hilo (Nov. 12), at Seawolf Jamboree (Nov. 16-17)
The Alaska Nanooks men’s basketball opened up the 2018-2019 season against two tough West Region opponents last weekend, falling 69-67 to Chaminade on Friday before dropping Saturday’s contest 92-77 to the Hawaii Pacific Sharks at the GNAC/PacWest Crossover in Honolulu, Hawaii. The Nanooks will take on the Hawaii-Hilo Vulcans in a nonconference contest on Monday, Nov. 12, at the Afook-Chinen Auditorium in the final game of their Hawaii road trip. Tip-off is slated for 8:30 p.m. Alaska time. Alaska will return to the 49th state on Tuesday before heading 365 miles south to compete in the 2018 Seawolf Jamboree on Friday, Nov. 16, and Saturday, Nov. 17, hosted by UAA. The Nanooks will take on Lake Superior State University on Friday, Nov. 16 before facing Northwood University on Saturday, Nov. 17. Both contests will take place at the Alaska Airlines Center in Anchorage with tip-off scheduled for noon.

RIFLE
LAST WEEK: Idle | THIS WEEK: at UTEP (Nov. 15), at TCU (Nov. 16), at Nevada (Nov. 18)
The undefeated Alaska Nanooks coed rifle team returns to the range this week for their first road trip of the 2018-19 season. The Nooks will face the University of Texas at El Paso Miners in a head-to-head match at the UTEP Rifle Range on Thursday, Nov. 15 in El Paso, Texas before facing the Texas Christian University Horned Frogs at the TCU Rifle Range in Fort Worth, Texas on Friday, Nov. 16. Alaska will then head to Reno, Nevada to take on the Nevada Wolfpack on Sunday, Nov. 18.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL | 2-0 Overall, 0-0 GNAC
LAST WEEK: 2-0 | THIS WEEK: at Seawolf Hoops Classic (Nov. 16-17)
The Alaska Nanooks women’s basketball team kicked-off the 2018-2019 season with a pair of wins at the Gator Invite last weekend, taking down the San Francisco Gators 68-65 on Friday before defeating Holy Names 79-72 on Saturday. Like the Alaska men’s basketball team, the Nanooks will head to down to Anchorage to compete in a nonconference tournament, hosted by in-state rival Alaska Anchorage. The Nanooks will take on the Cal State Dominguez Hills on Friday, Nov. 16, before taking on CSU East Bay on Saturday, Nov. 17. Both games will take place at the Alaska Airlines Center with tip-off scheduled for 2:30 p.m.

SWIMMING
LAST WEEK: Idle | THIS WEEK: vs. Biola (Nov. 16-17)
The Alaska Nanooks swim team returns to the Patty Center pool for the first time since mid-October for a two-day meet against the Biola University Eagles this Friday, Nov. 16, and Saturday, Nov. 17. Friday’s meet will take place at 6 p.m., while Saturday is slated for noon.

CROSS COUNTRY
LAST WEEK: Idle | THIS WEEK: at NCAA West Regionals (Nov. 17)
After both teams placing ninth at the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships two weeks ago, select individuals from the Alaska Nanooks men’s and women’s cross country running teams will be competing in the NCAA West Regional Championships this Saturday, Nov. 17, in Billings, Montana.

  • Volleyball: The Alaska Nanooks volleyball team concluded the 2018 season last week, defeating the Northwest Nazarene Nighthawks 3-2 on Thursday before falling 3-0 on Saturday to the Central Washington Wildcats. Alaska finished the 2018 campaign with a 14-13 overall mark, going 12-8 in conference play.


Nordic Cup postponed
The Alaska Nanooks men’s and women’s Nordic ski teams were supposed to officially open the 2018-2019 season this weekend with the annual Nordic Cup Races at the Birch Hill Recreational Area in Fairbanks against in-state rival Alaska Anchorage. Due to lack of snow in Fairbanks, this Saturday, Nov. 17, and Sunday, Nov. 18’s Nordic Cup races have been postponed to early December. More details will be released when dates are confirmed.

SAAC canned food drive Nov. 16-17
The Alaska Nanooks Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will host its annual canned food drive at the Nov. 16 and Nov. 17 hockey games versus Alabama-Huntsville at the Carlson Center. The Alaska Nanooks SAAC asks fans to bring canned or nonperishable food items to the games to be donated the Fairbanks Community Food Bank prior to Thanksgiving weekend.

Five from @NanooksVB selected to GNAC all-academic team
On Friday, five the Alaska Nanooks volleyball team were selected to the 2018 GNAC All-Academic Team, up two selections from 2016 and 2017. Sophomore defensive specialist Sarina Mancari, redshirt-sophomore outside hitter Markie Miller, sophomore middle blocker Emily Moorhead, sophomore outside hitter Lahra Weber and sophomore setter Cate Whiting all made the team for the first time in their careers. Sweet named to GNAC/PacWest crossover all-tournament team
Despite going 0-2 at the GNAC/PacWest Crossover, Alaska Nanooks men’s basketball’s junior guard Spencer Sweet was named to the Crossover’s all-tournament team. Sweet shot 8-for-11 from the field, including 7-for-9 from beyond the arc, and 6-for-8 from the free throw line for 29 points. The Longview, Washington, native also tallied three rebounds, one assist, one block and one steal.

Ungaro, Wallace selected to Gator Invite all-tournament team
The Alaska Nanooks women’s basketball team kicked-off the 2018-2019 season with a bang, sweeping the San Francisco Gators and the Holy Names Eagles at the Gator Invite in San Francisco, California, last weekend. Following the tournament, junior guard Sabrina Ungaro and junior guard Kylie Wallace were both selected to the all-tournament team. Wallace tallied 33 points and 11 rebounds over the weekend, while Wallace tallied 37 points and 17 rebounds.

@NanooksHockey’s Chris Jandric named WCHA Rookie of the Week
On Monday, the Western Collegiate Hockey Association named Alaska Nanooks hockey’s freshman defenseman Chris Jandric the Rookie of the Week after a four-point weekend. C. Jandric tallied one goal and one assist for two points per night, four total, in the Nanooks’ 3-3 overtime tie (Nov. 9) and 4-3 win (Nov. 10) over the Lake Superior State Lakers in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. Jandric’s four-point weekend led all WCHA defensemen (any class) and all WCHA rookies over the weekend. Read more at http://bit.ly/2B1Gpcp.

2018-2019 season tickets on sale
Season ticket packages for the upcoming Alaska Nanooks hockey, men's basketball and women's basketball games are now on sale at the Alaska Nanooks ticketing office located in the lobby of the Patty Center. The office is open Monday through Friday, 11 a.m.–7 p.m. and and Saturdays noon-6 p.m. on weeks where hockey is home.
