After falling to Central Washington (3-1) and Northwest Nazarene (3-1) at home last week, the Alaska Nanooks volleyball team hits the road for a pair of Great Northwest Athletic Conference matches. The Nooks will take on in-state rival Alaska Anchorage in Anchorage on Tuesday, Sept. 11 at 7 p.m. AKT before traveling to Billings, Montana, to take on the MSUB Yellowjackets on Saturday, Sept. 15, at 5 p.m. AKT.

Nanooks of the Week
On Monday, the Alaska Nanooks sports information office declared sophomore outside hitter Lahra Weber (volleyball) and junior Lukash Platil (men’s cross-country) the Sept. 10 selections for the Nanooks of the Week for their performances on the court and on the trail last weekend, respectively.

Last week, Weber tallied back-to-back double-doubles for the Alaska Nanooks volleyball team in their conference-opening weekend. Weber posted 16 kills and 22 digs in Thursday’s 3-1 loss to Central Washington before posting a game-high 22 kills and 16 digs against Northwest Nazarene in a 3-1 decision in favor of the visitor. Weber also chipped in a combined four aces, 2.5 blocks and one assist throughout the two matches.

Lukash Platil (Jr. | Thornton, Colorado)
Platil was the highest-finishing male Nanook in Saturday’s 2018 New Balance Cross Country Classic at the Russian Jack Golf Course in Anchorage. The Nooks competed against the UAA Seawolves in the college and elite men division, with UAA sweeping the top five spots. Platil placed eighth overall, seventh among collegiate runners, with a 7k time of 22:38.4.

2018-2019 season tickets on sale
Season ticket packages for the upcoming Alaska Nanooks hockey, men’s basketball and women’s basketball games are now on sale at the Alaska Nanooks ticketing office located in the lobby of the Patty Center. The ticketing office is open Monday through Friday 11 a.m.–7 p.m. AKT. Tickets on sale for 2018 Nanooks Hall of Fame induction ceremony
Tickets for the 2018 Nanooks Hall of Fame induction ceremony and brunch are now on sale at http://bit.ly/2PCWbir. The ceremony will take place on Saturday, Sept. 22, at the Gold Room in the Westmark Hotel in Fairbanks. Doors will open at 10 a.m. AKT, and the ceremony will take place from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Tickets are $35 per person. This year’s 2018 induction class includes Frederick Boyle, Steve Frank, Tyler Kornfield, Don Lucia and the 2002-2003 Nanook men’s basketball team.
