VOLLEYBALL | 9-10 Overall, 7-5 GNAC
LAST WEEK: 2-0 | THIS WEEK: vs. Simon Fraser (Oct. 18), vs. Western Washington (Oct. 20)
The Alaska Nanooks volleyball team enters this week on a six-match winning streak, after defeating Alaska Anchorage 3-0 on Tuesday before taking down Montana State Billings 3-2 on Thursday. The six consecutive Great Northwest Athletic Conference wins marks the first time in Alaska has done so since joining the GNAC in 2001. This week, the Nanooks host the Simon Fraser Clan on Thursday, Oct. 18, before taking on the No. 4-ranked Western Washington Vikings on Saturday, Oct. 20. Both games will take place at the Alaska Airlines Court with Thursday’s match scheduled for 7 p.m., while Saturday’s is set for 1 p.m.

SWIMMING
LAST WEEK: Idle | THIS WEEK: vs. Azusa Pacific (Oct. 19-20)
After a highly successful showing at the annual Blue vs. Gold Pentathlon two weeks ago, the Alaska Nanooks swim team officially kicks off the 2018-2019 season this week by hosting fellow Pacific Collegiate Swimming and Diving Conference members, Azusa Pacific. The Nooks will take on the Cougars beginning Friday, Oct. 19, at 6 p.m. before closing out the weekend on Saturday, Oct. 20, at noon. Both meets will take place at the Patty Center Pool and are free and open to the public.

LAST WEEK: 0-2-0 | THIS WEEK: at #9 Denver (Oct. 19-20)
The Alaska Nanooks hockey team continues their hunt for their first win of the 2018-2019 season after dropping two nonconference contests at home last week to the now No. 4-ranked St. Cloud State University Huskies. Alaska fell 3-2 on Friday before dropping Saturday’s contest 6-2 to the Huskies at the Carlson Center.

The Nooks hit the road this week, taking on another nationally ranked team in the No. 9 University of Denver Pioneers in a two-game nonconference series this Friday, Oct. 19, and Saturday, Oct. 20, at Magnes Arena in Denver, Colorado. Puck-drop both nights is scheduled for 5:05 p.m. Alaska time.

CROSS COUNTRY RUNNING
LAST WEEK: Idle | THIS WEEK: at Western Washington Cross Country Classic (Oct. 20)
After a two week break, the Alaska Nanooks men’s and women’s cross country running teams return to the trail this week, participating in the 45th annual Western Washington University Cross Country Classic on Saturday, Oct. 20. The meet will take place at the Sudden Valley Golf Course in Bellingham, Washington, and will feature a 10k race for the men at 9 a.m. Alaska time and a 6k race for the women at 10 a.m. Alaska time.

@NanooksWBB to host military appreciation basketball camp
The Alaska Nanooks women’s basketball team will be hosting a military appreciation basketball camp on Saturday, Oct. 20, at the PFC Building 3709 on the Ft. Wainwright Army post. The camp is free for Department of Defense cardholders and their family members and is open to boys and girls. Nanooks of the Week
On Monday, the Alaska Nanooks sports information office declared redshirt-sophomore outside hitter Markie Miller (volleyball) and junior forward Kyle Marino (men’s ice hockey) the Oct. 15 selections for the Alaska Nanooks of the Week.

Markie Miller (R-So. | OH | Brewster, Wash.)
Last week, Miller’s offensive efforts helped the Alaska Nanooks volleyball team continue their six-match unbeaten streak with wins against Alaska Anchorage and Montana State Billings. Miller combined for 33 kills throughout both matches, while also chipping in six digs, three aces, two blocks and one assist.

Kyle Marino (Jr. | F | Niagara Falls, Ont.)
Marino scored the Alaska Nanooks hockey team’s first goal of the season on Friday night, earning his first of the season. Despite dropping two nonconference contest to the No. 4th-ranked SCSU Huskies at home last weekend, Marino picked up one goal and two assists for a team-best three points in two games.

@AlaskaNanooks Ski Team Day at Beaver Sports on Oct. 26
The Alaska Nanooks men’s and women’s Nordic ski teams have partnered up with Beaver Sports for their annual Ski Team Day on Friday, Oct. 26. Fifteen percent of all regular sales will be donated to the Alaska Nanooks ski team that day. Anyone who makes an additional cash donation of $5 or more will receive 20 percent off any clothing purchased that day. At 6 p.m., Alaska Nanooks Nordic ski team head coach Nick Crawford will be hosting a free waxing clinic.

@NanooksWBB meet and greet on Nov. 2 at Mt. McKinley Bank
Come and meet your 2018-2019 Alaska Nanooks women’s basketball team at Mt. McKinley Bank on Nov. 2 during First Friday! The event is free and open to all ages. There will be autograph signings, giveaways and free food and beverages. The event will take place from 4-6 p.m. inside Mt. McKinley Bank, 500 4th Ave. in downtown Fairbanks.

Tickets for @NanooksWBB vs. Oregon on sale now
Tickets for the Alaska Nanooks women’s basketball exhibition game against the University of Oregon Ducks on Tuesday, Nov. 6, are currently on sale. 2018-2019 season tickets on sale
Season ticket packages for the upcoming Alaska Nanooks hockey, men’s basketball and women’s basketball games are now on sale at the Alaska Nanooks ticketing office in the lobby of the Patty Center. The office is open Monday through Friday 11 a.m.–7 p.m. and Saturdays from noon–6 p.m. during weeks where hockey is home.
