Athletic director Gary Gray announced that the Alaska Nanooks will be hosting a 10-day Military Appreciation initiative from Nov. 9-18.

“We are very pleased and honored to sponsor the various Military Appreciation events, both on-campus and on-base, over the next several days,” Gray said. “The military is an important part of the Fairbanks community and indeed an important component of our state and country. We sincerely express our gratitude to all members of the armed forces currently serving America as well as those who previously served.”

The Nanooks have a total of 14 home events during the time span and members of the military will be honored at each event. Each event at the Patty Center is free to active members of the military, their families and veterans while hockey general admission tickets will be discounted to $9 each (at Patty Center box office only, other outlets include ticket fees).

During hockey's home series against Western Michigan on Nov. 16-17, the Nanooks will wear special military jerseys on the ice.

Prior to the start of each home event, military personnel will present the colors and sing the national anthem. An army band will also be present at various events throughout the week.

In preparation for the Nanooks' Military Appreciation events, teams have gone and will go off campus to Fort Wainwright for community engagement activities and meet and greets with various military members.
