The Athletics Department has released a five-year plan, the "Nanook Way" (PDF).

The goal is to drive success in both athletics and academics in one community. Vision, purpose, core values, and being internally and externally focused are the main outlines for students to follow the "Nanook Way." Through these five objectives, the Alaska Nanooks athletic department is looking at how to advance their services from good to great.

"The 'Nanook Way' provides UAF and Alaska athletics with a plan for the next five years for moving athletics from good to great, allowing us to create a 21st century integrated and successful intercollegiate athletics program," said Keith Champagne, athletic director and vice chancellor for student affairs.

The department will create an environment that fits the needs of all UAF student-athletes.

"We look at a lot of other institutions that are a similar size of ours and we know we are good, but as we continue, we also look to differentiate ourselves from the pack to become great," said Terlynn Olds, executive senior associate director of athletics and senior woman administrator. "This is our checklist for the next five years, and I'm excited to see the growth."
