Alaska EPSCoR to hold data visualization workshop

Workshop flyer-3 The Alaska Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research will host a data visualization workshop on the Fairbanks campus on Nov. 16-17.

The agenda will include presentations and discussions about visualization technology and techniques, with a focus on creating content for UAF's new Decision Theater North and the UAA Planetarium and Visualization Theater.

Sessions will cover an introduction to data visualization; visualizing and integrating data for decision-making; visualization technology; artistic principles for data visualization; and user needs and institutional capacity building. Hands-on workshops will deal with infographics, GIS techniques, and web-based data visualization tools.

Speakers will include Jen Christiansen, senior graphics editor for Scientific American, and Kevin Desouza, associate dean for research at the Arizona State University College of Public Service and Community Solutions.

Registration for the workshop is free and open to UA faculty, staff and students. Competitive travel funding is available. Alaska EPSCoR is also soliciting abstracts for a poster and multimedia session at the event. Please visit www.alaska.edu/epscor for more information.
