Students and faculty at all UA campuses are encouraged to apply for Alaska Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (EPSCoR) awards for spring 2012.
 The
deadline for student proposals is Sept. 30 and for integrative
faculty awards and travel grants is Oct. 7.

Due to limited funding this year, preference will be given to graduate
students and faculty who have received previous EPSCoR funding since July
2007 and require assistance in furthering their research. Undergraduate and
travel proposals will be reviewed without regard to previous funding.

Awards include:

  • Travel Grants (16 available, for $1,000 - $1,500): Travel grants are
available to students and faculty for travel to conferences and events
or for field work. Grants are available for travel taking place between
Jan. 1 and June 15, 2012.

  • Undergraduate Research Awards (six available): Undergrads participating in a
research project are eligible for these awards, which include a $4,000
stipend and up to $2,000 for supplies.

  • Graduate Research Awards (14 available): Graduate students undertaking research
projects can apply for these awards, which include stipends of $11,000 and up
to $2,000 for supplies, as well as tuition and health insurance.

  • Integrative Faculty Development Grants (six available): Grants of up to
$20,000 will be awarded to teams of faculty pursuing an interdisciplinary
research project.

Grants will be awarded to projects in the fields of physical science, biology
and the social sciences, with preference given to projects based around the
themes of water, ecosystem services, mobilities and systems modeling. All
proposals should in some way examine the causes and/or effects of
environmental and social change on Alaskans.
