The U.S. Department of the Interior held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially open the Alaska Climate Science Center  — the first of its kind in the nation — Thursday, Feb. 24, at the University of Alaska Anchorage Diplomacy Building. DOI is partnering with UAF to organize the center.

The center dedication is the first of eight regional climate science centers throughout the nation being established by DOI through the U.S. Geological Survey and in partnership with universities. The centers will work closely with government agencies and universities to use existing science programs to build new capabilities and will function as regional providers of climate science and as part of a nationally coordinated network.
