Administrative Professionals Week, April 22 – 28, calls attention to the important workplace role of administrative professionals.  In recognition of the dedicated and hardworking administrative professionals at the University of Alaska, various events are scheduled on Thursday, April 26.  Sessions during the day will include presentations on personal safety and wellness, career development, technology applications to improve workflow, and a panel discussion by administrative professionals.  Also, WIN Alaska will be providing 15 minute wellness sessions, healthy snacks and chair massages to UA employees.

The events below will be held in the Butrovich Building, Board of Regents' Conference Room 109 and are open to all UA employees.


  • 8 a.m. Refreshments

  • 8:10 a.m. Welcome & Introductions 

  • 8:15 – 8:30 a.m. Opening Statement by Patrick K. Gamble, President, University of Alaska

  • 8:30 – 9:20 a.m. Staff Awareness and Observation Training
    Benefits and techniques to raise your awareness level here at the university and your community. This program offers employees the ability to detect signs and symptoms of potentially explosive situations before they occur and gives specific contacts if they suspect or encounter any dangerous progression or violent behavior. Presenter: Sean McGee, Chief of Police, UAF

  • 9:30 - 10:20 a.m. Business Networking for the Administrative Professional and Career Counseling
    Patti Picha will offer tips for networking, career planning and share information about the various resources available at UAF Career Services to help individuals make satisfying decisions about their career choices. Presenter: Patricia Picha, Director, Career Services, UAF

  • 10:30 am – 12:30 p.m. WIN Wellness Break
    Drop in for a Wellness Break. Each of the sessions below run about 15 minutes and will roll right into the next. Stop in for one or stay for all. Chair massages will be offered concurrently during these sessions.  These great, stress-reducing massages fill up quickly! Chair massage requires registration at the following link: Register Now!   • 1 – 2:20 p.m. "Putting Your Best Foot Forward" - Panel Discussion 
    Panelists will share their experiences and thoughts on the critical knowledge, skills and abilities needed by administrative professionals. They’ll also share tips on how they manage their workload and stay current, maintaining their own professional development. Panelists: Julie Larweth, Executive Officer, Office of Information Technology, UAF, Sacha Layos, Office Manager, General Counsel, UA, Dianne Milke, Executive Assistant to the President, UA. Moderator: Anne Sakumoto, Statewide Human Resources

  • 2:30 – 3:20 p.m. Business Applications to Improve Your Workflow
    Have you ever heard about various software applications but not had time to research or use them? If so, you’re not alone.
