The next Alaska Center for Energy and Power Community Energy Lecture Series will be held at 6 - 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15, at The Blue Loon (2999 Parks Highway).  Ross Coen, Alaska Center for Energy and Power research professional, will present this month’s lecture  “Alaska Crude: A Brief History of Oil and Gas in the 49th State.”

A lot is known about Prudhoe Bay and the pipeline, but Alaska's history of oil development goes back much further. From the first oil well at Katalla in 1902 right up to the present day, oil development has had a profound impact on Alaska. Coen will explore the political, economic, environmental and social history of Alaska's oil industry and how our complicated relationship with the valuable resource has influenced life in Alaska at almost every turn.
