28 Nanooks awarded Division 2 ADA Academic Achievement Award

The academic accolades for the 2012-13 year continued to roll in Wednesday as 28 Alaska student-athletes were the recipients of the Division 2 Athletics Directors Association Academic Achievement Award.

All nine of Alaska's Division II-affiliated programs were represented on this list, which recognizes those who have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade-point average, have attended a minimum of two years (four semesters) of college and have been an active member of an intercollegiate team during his/her last academic year.

Of the 28, the women's cross country and skiing teams had nine honored while the men's cross country and skiing teams put six on the list. The men's basketball and swimming program's each had four honored, volleyball and rifle had two each and women's basketball had one.

A record number of institutions (171) and student-athletes (6,881) were recognized for the 2012-13 Academic Achievement Awards.  Five Great Northwest Athletic Conference institutions were on the list as joining Alaska were Montana State Billings, Seattle Pacific, Simon Fraser and Western Washington.

The D2ADA is the first organization of its kind to provide educational and networking opportunities; enhancement of acceptable operating standards and ethics; and establishment of the overall prestige and understanding of the profession of Division 2 athletics directors.
