Pathfinder Award enhanced with monetary prize

The recognition granted to the recipient of the annual Pathfinder Award will be enhanced with a $500 prize.

The Pathfinder Award honors an outstanding UAF staff member who exemplifies compassion and dedication to the success of Alaska Native and rural students. It was established by the Department of Alaska Native Studies and Rural Development.

The nomination period for the 2017 award has been extended to Feb. 10 at 5 p.m.

Non-faculty staff members at all UAF campuses and learning centers are eligible for the award. Letters of nomination should detail how the employee:


  • Serves as an advocate for Alaska Native/rural students.

  • Assists Alaska Native/rural students to overcome personal and academic challenges.

  • Demonstrates a high level of commitment to the success of Alaska Native/rural students.

  • Engages effectively with leaders, students or regional residents to advance educational opportunities for Alaska Native/rural students.
