The University of Alaska Fairbanks Sustainable Campus Task Force will sponsor the fourth annual Sustainable Living Conference April 21-27, 2008. The conference will take place in conjunction with Earth Day, a nationally recognized event held on April 22 each year to promote awareness and appreciation of the earth’s environment.

The Sustainable Living Conference will include presentations and workshops on climate change, recycling, sustainability, gardening and renewable energy. Sustainability-related movies, including "An Inconvenient Truth," "Manufactured Landscapes" and "Empty Oceans Empty Nets," will be shown in the Hess Recreation Center throughout the week. A meeting on the UAF Sustainability Plan will be held Wednesday, April 23, from 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. in Wood Center Conference Rooms E and F.

The SCTF will host an Earth Day fair Saturday, April 26, from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. in Constitution Plaza on campus. The event will feature performances by local bands Gangly Moose and Sweating Honey, a barbecue of Alaska-grown foods, a recycled art contest, prizes, booths, games and workshops.

The conference will close with a sustainable living tour of Fairbanks on Sunday, April 27. Participants will visit homes in Fairbanks that make use of sustainable living techniques. Tour participants will also have the opportunity to travel to Chena Hot Springs to learn about the resort’s use of hydrogen as a renewable energy source. Tour participants will meet at the Patty Center parking lot at 10 a.m.; the tour will last throughout the afternoon.

All conference events are free and open to the public. For more information, visit www.vortexforces.com/sctf or contact the Sustainable Campus Task Force at 907-474-6037 or via e-mail at fbsctf@uaf.edu.
