988: Three-digit dialing code for Suicide and Crisis Lifeline goes live Saturday
On July 16, 2022, callers can dial 988 to connect to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline’s (the Lifeline) network of highly trained call center professionals. Those in Alaska who dial from a 907 area code will connect to Careline Alaska, where trained crisis counselors can provide confidential support 24 hours, 7 days a week. This service is for all ages, non-English speakers, and those who are deaf or hard of hearing. These trained counselors can respond to crises, provide emotional support and connect callers with local resources.
If you or someone you know is having thoughts of suicide or experiencing mental health or substance use crisis, call the Lifeline at 800-273-8255 or the Alaska Careline at 877-266-HELP. On July 16, you can also dial 988.
