The Tanana District is one of the largest Cooperative Extension Service districts in the United States, covering an area of more than 120,000 square miles. The population is approximately 100,000 and includes the Fairbanks North Star Borough and 64 villages with a mostly Alaska Native population. Much of the district is inaccessible by road. The main economic drivers are mining, tourism, the University of Alaska, and the military.
The district offers outreach programs in agriculture and horticulture; health, home and family development; integrated pest management; nutrition; and 4-H and youth development.

The 40 Below Mooseketeers typically meet the first and third Sunday of each month, with the Cloverbuds meeting at 11 a.m. and regular club members at 1 p.m., at the UAF University Park Building, 1000 University Ave., in Rooms 150 and/or 154. (Meeting schedule subject to change.)
Typical club projects include: Arts & crafts; communication arts; clothing & textiles; quilting; sewing construction; breads; foods & nutrition; foods preservation; foods safety; leadership skills development; and introductory 4-H projects for Cloverbuds (ages 5-7).

Join the Valley Garden Club and Cooperative Extension Service to learn more about the pollinators in your backyard. Alex Wenninger, UAF CES integrated pest management technician, will cover the nesting habits of native bees and how to recognize common bees and other pollinators in Alaska. She will also cover ways to attract pollinators and how to be a good pollinator steward in your own garden by planting for pollinators and managing invasive plants.
