Quaternary Science is the multi-disciplinary study of geological, biological, climatological and human systems of the past two million years (the Quaternary Period), and the evolution of these systems into present conditions on Earth. The Alaska Quaternary Center (AQC) is committed to the promotion of interdisciplinary research and the enhancement of interdisciplinary instruction in Quaternary sciences.

Quaternary events Fall 2019:

  • Biology Seminar Friday, October 11, 4 pm Murie Auditorium, UAF:  Strontium isotopes within multi-isotope approaches to ecological and paleoecological research:   A case study tracking the movement and feeding ecology of a 17,000 year-old woolly mammoth 
    Dr. Matthew Wooller, Water and Environmental Research Center, UAF.
  • October 22nd and 23rd:  Dr Eske Willerslev, a world-famous expert in ancient DNA will be visiting the UAF campus.  He studies the ancient DNA of plants, animals, and people.
    • Tuesday October 22nd, 7 pm Schaible Auditorium, UAF: Hunting for the Molecular Past:  From Trapping in Siberia to Studies of our Human History
    • Wednesday October 23rd, 4 pm, Place TBD at UAF: Early Peopling of the Americas and the Ice Age Megafaunal Extinction--an Ancient Genomics Perspective
