Day 1, Sep. 29th, 2014

System installation

What a windy day today!

But, with our dedicated installation crew, who have working outside for whole day with chilly wind !!,  we have completed the system installation, tested couple of units and are almost on schedule (only about a 1.5 hour delay, not bad).

So far, we have two sensors installed on the side and one under bottom. We are still planning on the first test flight tomorrow, if the weather would permit. (Cross your fingers)

Day 2, Sep. 30th, 2014

System operations and date processing, acquisition of test data

Today, we planed to test the system connection and may be one test flight.. However, it was snowing pretty much the whole day.

Also, as part of the plan,  we had discussion on the mission planing, system configuration and operation.

Too bad, we didn't take any photos inside the conference room.   Hope tomorrow a better weather, and we can have test flight!

Day 3, Oct 1st, 2014

System operations and date processing

We had the first successful data collects today!!

Given the low clouds, we flied the radar sytem in relative low altitude, thus wide angle . We had part of University been covered and also a region south west of Fairbanks over river and forest region.

The data processing went well, and geocode maps have been generated. The first data collection and processing went very well!

Day 4, Oct 2nd, 2014

System operations and date processing

Thanks to the great weather, we had another data collection and tested different radar antennas, combination and polarimetric mode.

We had flown the radar system at about 1 km elevation to test the echo strength and this time with relatively narrow swath.

The data processing seems fairly straightforward. Click + cup of coffee, then waiting for image being generated.

As the last day of our radar expert in town,  we had a BBQ party...  As I promised here, I will post newly generated radar images online and may also the photos from the BBQ !!

Let's fly the radar over Alaska !!

Updates on Nov. 11th

Image data is available for download

In the pass few weeks, we have launched several times of data collection both on the purpose of system testing and also for the data production.

Right now, the airplane is in the maintenance and we are expecting it will come back to work in next week. At the same time, our dedicated research crew has processed the data set..
