Residents of Walsh Hall were relocated Jan. 26 after a steam and water line break left multiple buildings without heat and water service. The Bunnell House Early Childhood Lab School was closed for business for two days.


UAF American Indian Science and Engineering Society received three out of five awards including its seventh Chapter of the Year designation at the society’s 2014 national conference awards in November.


Scientists launched four NASA sounding rockets from Poker Flat Research Range on Jan. 26 and a fifth on Jan. 27. Researchers said the rockets performed well at nearly 40 degrees below zero.


Chancellor Brian Rogers presented the UAF Sustainability Plan in January. The plan outlines 16 strategies within four focus areas, each with implementation steps.


UAF provided Green Dot bystander education to the campus community in January. The program provides strategies for dealing with interpersonal violence.


UAF’s bullying awareness training now available for supervisors and must be completed by June 30.


The UAF Cooperative Extension Service is hosting workshops via video-conference through Feb. 17 for individuals interested in starting and operating a specialty food business in Alaska.


Facilities Services completed code correction and upgrades in the Moore-Bartlett-Skarland resident hall lobby. The project includes a welcoming space and entrances accessible to people with disabilities.


The Chancellor’s Gala will take place Feb. 27 at the Westmark Fairbanks Hotel. Proceeds support community mental health and UAF’s clinical-community psychology program.


New York Life renewed its support of the Alaska Summer Research Academy and Rural Alaska Honors Institute pre-college programs with a pledge of $400,000 over two years.


BP donated $100,000 to help establish a chemical engineering program. 


The Pollock Conservation Cooperative made fourth quarter gifts totaling $173,611 in support of the PCC Research Center in the School of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences.


Grace Berg Schaible donated $40,000 in support of the Troth Yeddha' Legacy Initiative. Schaible is a long-time supporter of UAF and the UA Museum of the North.


Shell Exploration and Production Co. donated $50,000 for the Rural Alaska Honors Institute program and $25,000 for the GeoFORCE Alaska program.


The estate of Kenelm Philip made an additional gift of $33,398.62 to its entomology endowment.


Chancellor Rogers plans to address the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce on Feb. 9, 2015.


Raye Ann and E. Thomas Robinson donated $10,000 to the Robinson Family Athletic Endowed Scholarship.


An anonymous donor gave $20,000 to the Northern Gulf of Alaska Applied Research Fund in the School of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences.


Linda Hulbert made pledge payments totaling $30,000 to the Hulbert Nanook Terrain Park operated by the Department of Recreation, Adventure and Wellness.


The Associated Students of UAF student government donated $15,000 to the Joseph Thompson Memorial Fund.


First National Bank Alaska donated $32,500 to support the Community and Technical College, RAHI, School of Management and Chancellor’s Gala.


The Marion Weeks and Bill Stroecker Scholarship Fund received $26,000 from the Marion G. Weeks Charitable Foundation and $30,100 from the Bill Stroecker Foundation.


Bob and Heather Mitchell donated $30,591 to support six endowments with the goal of boosting the principal balance of the endowments to $25,000. Bob Mitchell is co-chair of the Centennial Scholarships Initiative at UAF.


McKinley Capital Management donated $10,500 to the School of Management


Dr. David and Barbara Murray donated $15,000 in support of Nanook skiing.


Helga and Bill Watterson donated $15,000 to the UAF Annual Fund.


John and Fran Zarling made gifts totaling $22,000 supporting the Zarling Engineering Scholarship as well as athletics and the UAF Community and Technical College airframe and power-plant program.


UAF’s School of Management will honor Andy Warwick as its 39th business leader of the year during a dinner and award ceremony on Friday, April 17, in the Westmark Fairbanks Hotel’s Gold Room. Warwick graduated from the school in 1966.
