Applicants with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from UAF or another AACSB-accredited institution with a GPA between 3.25 and 2.75 are required to take the Watson Glaser Critical Thinking Exam and pass with a minimum score of 25. Applicants with non-business degrees with a GPA from 4.0 to 2.75 are required to take the Watson-Glaser Critical Thinking Exam and pass with a minimum score of 25. All applicants with an undergraduate GPA lower than 2.75 must submit results from the GRE or the GMAT for review. - Statement of Goals Should indicate why you’re seeking to enter the Special Education program by analyzing your basic motivations, characteristics and qualifications, and how this may impact your success in the program. Should be 4—5 pages in length (double-spaced, Times New Roman font, 1 inch margins) and should include five basic components: Motivations: explain your reasons for wanting to enter the Special Education program. Consider your motivations and describe how they will assist you in realizing your degree completion. Personal Characteristics: discuss your personal characteristics and how they may help you in becoming effective in your future career goals. Experience: discuss your experiences related to this field including both paid and volunteer work. Describe how this relates to your interest in pursuing this degree. - Please review the following criteria to determine if you’ll need GRE, GMAT or Watson Glaser exam scores: Students that have already obtained a graduate degree will not be required to complete an entrance exam. Students with a baccalaureate degree with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher will not have any additional testing or entry course requirements. If you have a cumulative GPA between 3.0 and 2.75, regardless of the field of study, you’ll be required to complete the Watson Glaser Critical Thinking Exam. If you have a cumulative GPA below 2.75, you’ll be required to submit results from either the GRE or GMAT.

Describe how your academic qualifications and work experiences have prepared you for a career in teaching. Elaborate on your personal strengths, including your ability to work collaboratively with others. Describe your experiences with adolescents in instructional and supervisory capacities. Explain why you believe you can help young people of all cultures be successful in school.

- Three letters of recommendation: Individuals serving as references should be able to address your potential to succeed in graduate school. Ideally, this would include university faculty, research staff or professionals familiar with your academic and research achievements and also with the expectations of graduate school. References that address notable service (e.g., Peace Corps or AmeriCorps) may also be informative. Referees should address your writing ability, critical thinking skills, quantitative skills and potential to succeed in a graduate program.
