Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT)

CPAT at NTN

National Testing Network (NTN) provides convenient, professional administration of the Candidate Physical Abilities Test (CPAT) for firefighter candidates. Results are available for instant verification by any Network department.

National Testing Network provides the Candidate Physical Abilities Test (CPAT) according to the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) standards. These standards require candidates to be offered the opportunity to attend a CPAT Pre-Test Program. The Pre-Test Program includes two (2) CPAT Orientation sessions within the eight (8) week period preceding a CPAT test and two (2) timed practice runs of the CPAT within the 30 days prior to the test. These opportunities are optional but available to every candidate. The National Testing Network is committed to providing the CPAT in accordance with this agreement.

Candidates may choose not to participate in the mandatory/required orientations or practice tests, but will be required to sign a waiver acknowledging that these preparations have been offered.

The purchase of a CPAT test includes two (2) optional CPAT Orientation sessions. CPAT Orientation sessions last approximately 30 minutes. CPAT Practice Tests are also available for purchase and include an actual timed run of the CPAT. If the department you are testing for provides vouchers, they will cover varying amounts of these costs. You will be asked for your voucher information at the checkout screen.

Cost: $155 for certification.

CPAT Practice Tests are $45.00 per session.

Because of the physical demands of the test, NTN suggests that you not schedule a Practice Test and CPAT on the same day.

*Note: There will be no refunds for unused Practice Tests.

Your exam results will be posted in your online account page within 3 business days after you complete your exam.

All testing dates are weather dependent.  If weather conditions prohibit testing, we will move the test to an alternate date to be determined by the CPAT organizer. You will be contacted for the next available test date to reschedule.

Candidates who have been given a conditional offer of employment with UFD, you will need to register for a non-NTN CPAT test. The testing fee is waived for UFD conditional hire candidates only.

Benefits of taking the CPAT at a National Testing Network Center:

  • Weekly Timed Tests
  • Weekly Orientation and Practice Tests
  • Convenient Location
  • Professional Staff
  • One-on-One Candidate Interaction

Each certified department decides what CPAT results they will accept. IF YOU HAVE COMPLETED A CPAT AT A TESTING CENTER OTHER THAN NTN, you must contact the departments on your list to confirm that they will accept your CPAT results.
