FAFSA Verification

The U.S. Department of Education announced on May 18, 2022 that many requirements for verification will be waived. If you were selected for verification, you no longer need to submit the 2022-2023 Verification Worksheet and your 2020 IRS Tax Return Transcripts.

If you were asked to provide the Statement of Identity and Education Purpose worksheet with your photo I.D., you will still need to submit that document.

Please reach out to the UAF Financial Aid Office if you are unclear which documents you are required to submit.

What is FAFSA Verification?

The FAFSA Verification process double-checks and confirms the information you’ve submitted on your FAFSA. About one third of the people who file the FAFSA each year are selected for verification. Most students will need to submit the verification worksheet (PDF) and provide some additional documents. Once the verification is complete, UAF can offer your financial aid.

FAFSA Verification Next Steps:

  1. Review what you need to submit for verification. Everyone’s process is a little different, so you’ll want to make sure you’re gathering the information you need to submit. You can find this in two places:

    • The email from Financial Aid with the subject “UAF Financial Aid - Additional Requirements”

    • UAOnline.  Log in with your username and PIN, choose the “Financial Aid” menu, then “Eligibility,” then “Student Requirements.”  Select the aid year, then you will see a list of requirements.  Many of the requirements are links that will take you to the document needed.  Some documents you’ll collect on your own, such as copies of tax returns.

  2. Complete the verification worksheet (PDF) and compile the required documents. No need to make updates to your FAFSA unless the financial aid office asks you to.

  3. Submit your documents to the Financial Aid Office. You can email, fax or mail the documents.
    Email: uaf-financialaid@alaska.edu
Mailing address: P.O. Box 756360 Fairbanks, AK 99775

Once we have the Verification Worksheet and your documents, we will compare what you submitted with your FAFSA and make any updates. Verifications that don’t need any further corrections or follow-up take 3 to 5 business days to process. If your documentation needs to be corrected or needs further follow-up final processing can take 7 to 10 business days from the time you submit all required documents. It’s important to turn in your verification as quickly as you can.
