Dr. Robert Perkins

Professor of Civil Engineering, Emeritus

WHEREAS Dr. Robert Perkins served the University of Alaska Fairbanks with distinction in teaching, research and public service from 1999 to 2021; and

WHEREAS Dr. Perkins is an excellent and highly rated teacher who, after joining the University following a successful professional career, developed four online courses in the fields of civil and environmental engineering; and he helped to create the engineering doctoral program and the engineering and science management master’s program; and he mentored more than forty master’s and five doctoral students; and

WHEREAS Dr. Perkins’ research during his career has made significant contributions to understanding Arctic oil spill response options, safe remediation of hazardous materials, techniques of handling and processing transportation safety data, and alternative construction project management methods; and

WHEREAS Dr. Perkins has served the engineering profession and the engineering and construction industry in Alaska through numerous activities recognized by his peers in those fields; and he has lectured and coordinated many outreach programs in Alaska and lectured nationwide and in Russia;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks expresses its deep appreciation to Dr. Robert Perkins for his extensive contributions to the State of Alaska and to the University; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks, in further recognition of the invaluable services rendered by Dr. Perkins and as evidence of the University’s desire that his identification with the University be maintained, hereby salutes the appointment of Dr. Robert Perkins as Professor of Civil Engineering, Emeritus; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be appropriately engrossed and signed by the Chancellor of the University of Alaska Fairbanks as further evidence of the esteem and respect in which he holds Dr. Robert Perkins, and conveyed to Dr. Perkins on this first day of May, 2021.
